Shitty First Draft

First drafts are the most important part for a writer. The first draft is to regurgitate and lay down the basic information. I agree when Anne Lamott says "Very few writers really know what they are doing until they've done it." While writing and editing a first draft you are preventing errors from going into your finial copy and deleting extra material.

After reading this I think I am going to use the first draft more often. I fell that Lamott is correct about getting all the information down when writing the first draft then going back and editing it. She uses alot of good similes to get the point across and comedy too. Although some of her humor is kinda dark, I liked when she talked about writers block which is a major enemy to most writers. Also when she talks about doing ten other things before getting down to writing. I tend to do many things and get off topic when about to start writing too. So if I did this before every main writing assignment, unless required, I could improve my grade by probley ten percent.

  1. I completely agree with you. Writing a first draft will always make a paper better than it originally could be. You are able to see your own mistakes in the paper and even the strengths. By doing that you can edit the paper to make it better, like you said. And I bet It could probably raise you grade more than 10 percent. Because if you're editing your paper correctly, you should not have any mistakes, or even a reason to get anything less then a 100 percent on that paper. So also like you said, I'm gonna use first drafts all the time
